“Change is life’s only constant.”

Biography

Johnny is an independent filmmaker, who has made 4 films and swag of short film programs, documenting experiences in his life to share with others. Born in Newcastle, NSW where Abegg lived until the age of 4. Moved to Tasmania where he grew up, it was here in the chilly waters of Tasmania where he started surfing at age 10, winning state cadet surfing championship. Moved to Byron Bay with his family at the age of 15 to then compete locally, nationally and internationally until the age of 26.

Abegg is a former Travelling WQS Surfer. No longer competes. He has since experimented with wave riding and boards to suit his mood/desire and focuses on ways he can give back and nurture our planet, such as his participation in the South-West Marine Debris Clean-up. Documenting people and change through film.

Break free with Johnny Abegg as he takes ‘Two Weeks’ off from his monotonous world of wavering ideals and a growing unhappiness, to experience the remote wilderness of Tasmania on his own.
